 The Inexhaustible treasury of potential

There is a vast potential, latent within human beings that remains undiscovered because of the limitations placed on consciousness by habitual preoccupations.

The recommendation that all cravings be relinquished does not mean that detachment itself is the goal; it is a means of breaking through self-imposed restrictions and opening up to this inexhaustible treasury of potential.

-Muso Kokushi (1275-1351)

In psychoanalytic sessions I sit with my clients and accompany them in a collaborative endeavor to discover potentials in their life. We think and dream together amid despair, guilt and shame. What has been avoided in their life becomes a space where the potential is embedded in the reactions to traumatic events, betrayals and failures. The natural craving for perfect love and happiness will unintentionally impose limitations on our ability to experience the fulness of life. By entering a state of waking dream, we allow our imagination and creativity to think about the certainties and conclusions we have acquired in our life. This creates the opportunity to break through the outdated and unrealistic assumptions that contribute to feelings of despair and anguish. New realizations emerge from the inexhaustible treasury of potential.
